Hi, I’m Maya and I’m a junior at Carmel High School. I’ve been a YAC member for three years now which has given me the chance to explore my art outside of school. My favorite medium is watercolor but I’ve been trying out colored pencils and acrylics more recently. I mainly paint portraits and human subjects. I’m excited to share my work with everyone!

I’ve learned to appreciate art for the emotion it demeans rather than its worth, which has expanded my horizons further than I could have possibly imagined. When I create art, my goal is to invoke emotion and deep feeling in the viewer, and incite a deeper understanding.

Hello my name is Sienna, I am a artist that has been around with YAC for around 4 years. I have a love for animation and graphic design and I hope later on in the future I can pursue that passion full time. I graduated high school in 2025 and this year I was able to take art classes over at MPC. Want to give a little shout out to MPC art department has they have not only helped improve my art, but also let me be able to expand my creativity through new mediums while also being able to gain multiple connects with students and teachers within the art department. Also want to give some love to YAC as for those 4 years of my life I appreciate that I was able to have a community where I can be myself, and meet so many amazing people that share the same passion as me.

Haii my name is Skye Stone and im 15 years old. I Iove painting and ive just recently started exploring making 3D pieces. My Artwork in this show sort of resembles my mind and different emotions, but its mostly pretty random. YAC is really important to me because it allows me to have the time and materials to do art. Before i joined YAC i did i bit of art but not as much as i wanted because i would procrastinate alot and i didnt have many materials; YAC helps me have a designated time and place to do art and lottss of different materials to work with and i am forever grateful for YAC.

My art process is deeply rooted in my emotions, and I believe many artists’ works are. More often than not, I draw characters from fantastical worlds, hoping to traverse what I feel in a place outside the one we live in, or escape it altogether. However, on occasion, I make a peace meant to celebrate this life I live in, to chase after the hope to be found, and celebrate the life that, despite everything, presses on.

Zoey McNeil

Hello, my name is Zoey McNeil, and I am a rising highschool senior who has been at yac for 3 years now. I am 17 years old, and extremely active in the arts. Along with painting and drawing I also enjoy writing and technical theatre, having big dreams in the work after highschool.

My works for this show don't necessarily have a set theme in mind, however there is a clear pattern of my art being influenced by what's going on in my mind at the time of creation. Some of my peices are silly expressions of my current obsessions, for example my peice "Blood and Icescream" being direct fanart of Edgar Wright's and Simon Pegg's cornetto trilogy, while other peices touch heavily on themes of social justice.

My staple peice of the show, and the one that has been used for this Summer show's advertisement is one simply entitled "Human" and was born from frustration and despair over ICE raids. When making the idea for the painting I couldn't stop thinking about how the thousands kidnapped by ICE were members of a community. Of OUR communities. They are our friends, our neighbors. They are human, and shouldn't that be enough? Through my frustration of current events I painted what, to me, is a representation of thoughts on what it means to exist as a human who deserves love, equity, respect, and to be treated humanely.

Other peices for this show, like my "Dogwhistle" peice work to break down current and existing issues into palletable symbols. I often ask myself, "What does it mean for me to fall victim of a political dogwhistle" or something else of the same vain. Well, to me, that looks a lot like a regular person doom scrolling comfortably on their bed. Perhaps this is a dad chilling after a long day of work. Maybe it's a teenage girl looking for an escape of the real world. The fun and bright colors of the room contrasting the sharp red swastika on the phone.
