Political Art Workshop

If you’ve been following Meg Biddle’s work for awhile, you know her sketches express many things, including politics. We’re so glad we got to have a workshop and share conversation about political art! Read what Meg has to say about our workshop yesterday:

“Friday was an afternoon of spirited conversation around politics, and art as cultural and political commentary. We all shared personal stories from the current political landscape, with a few short civics lessons slipped in to explain how we got here.

Then we talked about what we as artists can do about this. Turns out there are many things in addition to protest signs that we can do. And by participating, they are playing their part in history.

They viewed several political cartoonists’ work, discussing the props they used to get a lot across with very little... looked at some fabulous inspirational projects of JR, ..Oh, and listened to Colbert perform THE best freak out over the latest security breach. Because comedians are doing their part as well.

Then with all this new information we began to sketch. It was a lot to fit into 2 hours. This may be an ongoing off an on form of expression around here, so I’ll provide links to reputable news sources online to help them stay informed, along with notes from this workshop.

Got to say, I loved the energy. All in all—a very engaging afternoon. YACsters rock!”
